Sinai desert

Sinai desert ( سيناء ) is a desert situated in Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. It is situated between the Mediterranean Sea to the north, and the Red Sea to the south, and is the only part of Egyptian territory located in Asia as opposed to Africa, effectively serving as a land bridge between two continents.
It is estimated that the Sinai Desert receives more than 1.6 million acre-feet (2 billion cubic metres) of water annually from local precipitation. About one-fourth of this water flows on the surface as runoff, and a similar amount percolates to groundwater reservoirs, thereby offering excellent opportunities for water conservation. The vegetation in the Sinai Desert is mostly ephemeral, but perennial scrub survives on the steep southern slopes and on the plateau to the north.
