             Western Asia (Southwestern Asia, Middle East, Near East) is an Asian region located directly south of Eastern Europe. The region is surrounded by seven major seas; the Aegean Sea, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. The world's earliest civilizations developed in Western Asia. For most of the last three millennia, the region has been united under one or two powerful states. Western Asia is the birthplace of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
             Western Asia had a population of 313,428,000. The most populous city is Istanbul (13,854,740). Other big cities are: Tehran, Baghdad, Riyadh, Ankara.
